When embarking on an interior project, it can sometimes be difficult to select colour and wallpaper combinations that will work well in your space and achieve your design vision.

A Little Greene Colour Consultation will help you decorate your home with confidence, whether you’re starting at square one or you just need a little guidance to confirm your ideas.

Find out exactly how Colour Consultancy works from our team of experts and discover why you should consider a consultation for your next project.

Why Colour Consultancy?

There are many ways you can find advice and inspiration to assist you with your projects, whether you explore the Little Greene website or visit our showroom teams in-store. But if you’re looking for bespoke guidance, Little Greene Colour Consultancy is a personalised service that offers a greater level of detail.

Our Head of Retail, Rachel Lonergan, writes:

“By visiting customers in their home, it allows our consultants see the light level and direction, the scale of each room and any furniture or artwork that is important to the project in more detail. We now offer Video Colour Consultancy too, which allows us to help customers who may not live close to one of our showrooms.”

How does Colour Consultancy work?

Rachel shares: “There are three types of appointment available: in-home, video and in-showroom. Our showroom teams can help you decide what service will be most beneficial for you, then – to book an appointment – you simply have to contact one of the showrooms to confirm a time that works for you.”

At the appointment, one of our professionally trained consultants will walk around the space with you (or be shown around on a screen for a video appointment). They will listen to your ideas, ask questions and make colour or wallpaper suggestions that will complement the space and suit your personal style.

“Within 24 hours, you will be sent a full specification outlining the recommended paint colours and finishes, any wallpaper choices and estimate of quantities required. The consultant and showroom team will be on hand to help process your order and assist with any additional queries you may have.”

What has been your favourite project to-date?

Anthony, the Colour Consultant from our Chelsea showroom, writes:

“My favourite job so far has been a Chelsea period property. The client was lovely and had his eye on the property for over 30 years. He aimed to restore it back to its original condition and wanted the colours to reflect this. It was a pleasure to work on and I was able to be really sympathetic to the style of property and used a number of heritage Little Greene colours and wallpaper to tie the whole project together.”

Stephanie, Colour Consultant at our Richmond showroom, shares:

“I can't say that I have a favourite, only because every project has been so different and rewarding in different ways. But what I love about all of the jobs and what they have in common is how they make the client feel and how it can transform their space. Once they have decided on the paint colour, and when they see how it transforms their room, it is so rewarding to know that you have helped that person to create a space that they feel at home in. A lick of paint can really be transformational for any interior!”

What has been the most challenging project to-date?

Claire, the Colour Consultant at our Notting Hill showroom, writes:

“Many clients assume that having a blank canvas with nothing but bare plaster on the walls is an easy starting point. It is in fact the opposite and can be really challenging. Colour Consultants are like detectives – we look at everything from the type of house you live and items you fill it with, to the colours you’re wearing. This, along with discussing preferences and lifestyle, helps us piece together what will work for that individual.”

Anthony adds:

“Without any furniture, it can be tricky to see a client’s vision, but with my guidance, with their samples and by discussing undertones, we get to progress and visualise the end-result. My advice with colour is get ahead of the game, as colour is vital for the whole project when picking all your elements.”

What Colour Consultancy option should I choose?

The Colour Consultancy option you choose will depend upon where you live and what best suits your lifestyle. Rachel explains more about each choice:

Video Colour Consultancy appointments are great if the customer doesn’t live near one of our showrooms, as they allow Consultants to help guide people’s choices wherever they are in the country.

In-home appointments allow for the consultant to physically walk around the space, assessing the light levels and direction etc. The consultant can show A5 samples of the colours and place on the walls, so it is perhaps easier for a customer to visualise the suggested schemes.

Our in-showroom appointments are really useful for people who maybe don’t have a physical building yet, as they are building their home or still at the planning stage. They can start their colour journey with the Consultant in the showroom, surrounded by our inspiring colour walls and samples.”

What advice would you give to someone considering a consultation?

Rachel writes: “Colour Consultancy is such a great tool for so many people, whether you have a vague idea of what you are looking for, or simply want a bit of reassurance. Our Consultants are the experts who can help with sparking ideas or giving confirmation. But importantly, they are also very approachable and will listen to the ideas and concerns of customers.”

How can I best prepare for my Colour Consultation?

Rachel shares her best tips:

“We would recommend you have a Little Greene colour card to hand, and have a think about what look and feel you might like to achieve.

You will be sent a pre-appointment questionnaire which is useful to both the client and consultant to have completed before the appointment. But it’s not a problem if you have absolutely no idea what you want to achieve…that is what the Consultant is there to help you with.”
