Step inside the collection…

We are excited to unveil an enchanting world of beautiful wallpaper designs. Each patterned wallpaper is inspired by archive material from properties conserved and cared for by the National Trust.

Inspiration has been drawn from historic artefacts, early and mid-twentieth century toys and decorative fabrics. Some designs are also inspired by original artworks, including several from the beloved children’s author, Beatrix Potter – one of the National Trust’s principal benefactors.

From classic toy cars to wooden games, these objects have been lovingly conserved and meticulously redrawn by our team. Each one has been transformed into a beautiful design that captures the charm of the originals. The new papers have been elegantly coloured in Little Greene shades. With designs presented alongside a selection of coordinating paint colours, you can easily combine paint and wallpaper with confidence.

Eight whimsical, beautiful wallpaper designs

The ‘Storybook Papers’ collection of children’s wallpapers comprises a range of charming designs. Explore styling ideas and inspiration to enliven any family space. Or embrace enchanting wallpapers, perfect for your nursery, child’s bedroom or playroom…

From the jungle to the farmyard: animal-print children’s wallpaper

Discover wallpapers like the quirky, surface-printed ‘Animal Kingdom’. Fill your home with wildlife, from colourful elephants and ostriches to penguins, toucans and polar bears! This quirky scene is drawn from a printed 1930s fabric found at Tyntesfield, an exquisite country house in North Somerset, which was home to the Gibbs family for more than 150 years.

Perfect for a nursery or playroom, our adorable ‘Riverside Capers’ mural features playful cartoonish drawings of chicks and ducks originally sketched by children’s illustrator, Cecil Aldin. Choose from three beautiful colourways with cheerful, light-hearted names: Moo, Cluck and Quack!

Inspired by vintage toys: playful nursery wallpapers

Nostalgic designs like ‘Rodney Street’, ‘Balance’ and ‘Road Trip’ show characterful depictions of children’s toys from the past. ‘Rodney Street’ showcases a vintage, mechanical apple-picking toy found at The Hardmans’ House in Rodney Street, Liverpool. Whilst ‘Road Trip’ features toy cars and trucks conserved at the National Trust’s ‘Children’s Country House’ in Sudbury Hall, Derbyshire.

Beautiful wallpaper designs featuring the artwork of Beatrix Potter

‘Storybook Papers’ employs a spectrum of printing methods. Made in the UK, these wallpapers are manufactured using traditional surface printing and cutting-edge digital machines. The collection also includes one flocked design in the ‘Nip & Lassie’ wallpaper. This unique printing technique brings a delightful textural element to Beatrix Potter’s beloved flock of Herdwick Sheep. Beatrix was known for her love of farming the land at Hill Top Farm in Ambleside. Her doodled portraits of her two working collies, Nip and Lassie, also feature in this design.

The artwork of Beatrix Potter has again been captured within our new ‘Potter’s Woodland’ mural. This enchanting children’s wallpaper has been thoughtfully composed from a variety of individual drawings and paintings from her unpublished sketchbooks.

New colourways of our Broad Stripe wallpaper:

To complete the wallpaper collection, we have also produced new colourways of our much-loved, generously proportioned design, ‘Broad Stripe’. These new colourways feature joyful, mood-boosting shades like Yellow-Pink and Celestial Blue. Another contemporary combination pairs Masquerade with Pleat. Use ‘Broad Stripe’ individually, or use alongside another of our ‘Storybook Papers’ to create a playful scheme that’s bursting with design interest.

Children’s wallpaper designed in partnership with the National Trust…

Our Creative Director, Ruth, writes: “It’s always such an honour to have access to the incredible National Trust properties, uncovering and reviving captivating historic designs, reinterpreting them and extending their history in new colourways and formats. It’s wonderful to think that these beautiful pieces of history including toys, children’s illustrations, and fabrics have now been transformed by the design team into wallpapers that will find their way into contemporary homes, bringing joy for years to come.

Whilst the origins of the ‘Storybook Papers’ are very much rooted in childhood, the whimsical, playful and colourful nature of these wallpapers makes them perfect for a multitude of spaces alongside children’s rooms and nurseries. I see these bold, bright and characterful designs bringing joy to breakfast rooms, hallways, boot rooms, bathrooms and dining spaces.

A contribution from the sale of every roll of our wallpaper is made in support of the National Trust’s important work caring for 500 places, including 780 miles of coastline, historic sites, 250,000 hectares of countryside and green spaces, ensuring that people and nature thrive – now and for ever.
