An enchanting bedroom featuring Storybook Papers…

Our new collection, ‘Storybook Papers’, provides the perfect wallpaper designs to transform your child’s bedroom into a space that feels like their own – filled with imagination, personality and pattern!

Be inspired by an enchanting scheme designed by Danielle Dean from @sienna.and.i. Featuring our Rodney Street and Broad Stripe wallpapers, it shows how you can embrace colour and pattern across your space to achieve a beautiful all-over transformation…

1. Tell us about this project. What was the brief for the space?

“When we moved into our home two years ago, my daughter's bedroom was one of the spaces we hadn’t touched. While it’s a lovely loft room with plenty of space, it has always felt a bit cold and unfinished, partly because it’s north facing, so it lacks natural warmth.

The goal for this project was to transform it into a space that felt cosy, timeless, and full of character. I wanted it to be a proper little girl's bedroom, rather than just a loft room. I envisioned something whimsical, warm and inviting – a place that feels magical for her now, but one that will also grow with her over time.”

2. Which colours and wallpapers did you choose, and why?

“For the colour palette, I went with Masquerade for the ceiling and beams, which instantly made the space feel warmer and more inviting. The woodwork, including the skirting, doors, and fitted wardrobes, is painted in China Clay, a lovely soft neutral that balances everything out beautifully.

To add some fun and structure, I used Broad Stripe in Masquerade on the sloping wall, giving the room a playful yet classic feel. But the real star of the show is Rodney Street in Masquerade, the perfect whimsical wallpaper that brings so much charm and character to the space.

I wanted the room to feel warm, cosy and timeless, and this combination did exactly that. The paint colours bring the warmth, the wallpaper adds that nostalgic, storybook-like whimsy, and together they’ve turned what once felt like a cold loft space into a proper little girl’s bedroom, one that she can grow into while still feeling like she’s in her own little world.”

3. One of our favourite things about this project is how you combined patterned and striped wallpapers in one scheme. What made you choose this pairing, and what does it bring to the space?

“I wasn’t sure at first if mixing two wallpapers would work, but I’m so glad I went for it because it adds so much whimsy and playfulness to the room. The Broad Stripe wallpaper creates a lovely sense of structure, and gives the space a timeless, almost vintage feel. While Rodney Street brings that extra layer of charm with its intricate pattern.

By combining the two, the room feels both cosy and full of character, rather than just one big block of pattern or colour. The contrast keeps it visually interesting without being overwhelming and it helps define different areas of the space. It also feels like a little nod to traditional interiors, where patterns and stripes were often mixed, but in a way that still feels modern and fun for a child’s bedroom.”

4. You’ve used colour and pattern on every available surface to completely transform the room. What advice would you give to anyone considering an all-over transformation?

“Going ‘all in’ with colour and pattern can feel a little daunting at first, but my biggest piece of advice is to trust the process and commit to your vision. I knew I wanted the room to feel warm, cosy, and full of character. So, rather than playing it safe, I leaned into that by layering colour and pattern in a way that felt intentional.

One of the key things that helped me feel confident was choosing a cohesive colour palette from the start. By keeping the tones warm and within the same family, the different elements – paint, stripes, and patterned wallpaper – all work together, rather than competing for attention.”

5. Finally, we’d love to hear your top three interior design tips for creating beautiful spaces that are brimming with character!

Think about how you want the space to feel first, then choose colours and patterns that support that mood.

Second, don’t be afraid to use pattern in unexpected places. The striped wall in this room, for example, adds structure without feeling overwhelming, and the wallpaper brings in that whimsical, storybook-feel I wanted. Balancing bolder choices with grounding elements, like soft woodwork colours, helps the space feel intentional rather than chaotic.

Finally, just go for it – the most beautiful, character-filled rooms often come from being brave with design choices.”
