4 ways to create a tranquil & unwinding space

Jo Malone London’s ‘Lavender & Moonflower’ offers the perfect fragrance to instil calm within the home. In a new, limited-edition candle, we’ve paired this scent with the soft, soothing combination of Bone China Blue and coordinating Ditsy Block wallpaper.

Draw inspiration from this candle to introduce a tranquil & unwinding atmosphere within your home. Discover four ways to transform your bedroom, living space or hallway into a sanctuary of peace…

1. Embrace the serenity of soft blues

Blue is inherently associated with feelings of calm and serenity. Soft pale blues are colours we feel soothed and comforted by, as they evoke the peaceful hue of a cloudless sky. This makes them very simple to incorporate into our living spaces for a scheme that is gentle and easy on the eye.

Bone China Blue is one of our most loved and versatile blues. Offered in four subtle variations, it is a beautiful, timeless colour that works in both traditional homes and more contemporary interiors. @emuplops used Bone China Blue to provide an inviting backdrop for her artwork and colourful prints, creating the perfect calm and contemporary living space.

Soft blues work wonderfully in bedroom schemes to bring beautiful, reassuring colour to your walls. Consider colour drenching your scheme, including the walls, skirtings, doors and fitted cabinetry. The use of one shade all over has a soothing, cocoon-like effect, creating a calm, restful environment where you can relax and unwind. @claire.moran.designs used Bone China Blue – Pale in this space to achieve an all-encompassed finish.

@rosieannbutcher chose Bone China Blue in our eco-friendly, upcycled Re:mix finish to give her bedroom a beautiful refresh. This inviting, restful hue is simple to coordinate with patterned fabrics and soft linens for a sense of calm and cohesion. Rosie chose classic stripes and gingham to create a timeless, coastal feel in this space.

2. Select calming neutrals to instil peace

Neutrals are a timeless choice to provide a subtle, calming backdrop for your home. Quiet and softly spoken, neutrals work well when they feature in more than one space. This approach will create effortless, seamless transition as you move from room to room, filling your home with a sense of tranquillity.

Made using a combination of natural pigments, Slaked Lime is perfect for those seeking a versatile neutral to use throughout the home. @talltrees.and.scandidreams created a restful haven using Slaked Lime – Deep in this bedroom, uplifted by natural sunlight and fresh floral arrangements.

If you are looking for a slightly cosier scheme, consider neutrals with earthy warm undertones, such as Rolling Fog. With its natural hue, this inviting historic shade maintains an understated quality, whilst bringing palpable warmth to your walls. Elevate a sense of calm and comfort by pairing Rolling Fog with layered, soft textural elements in tonal shades, as seen in this scheme from @hejmelig

3. Evoke the tranquillity of nature with green

The colour of nature, green is the perfect shade to introduce a tranquil atmosphere in your home. Green hues offer a wonderful sense of familiarity, evoking the same sense of calm and positivity gained through time spent in the natural world.

Opt for light, muted hues to produce a restful living environment, particularly in bedrooms or cosy snugs where you want to relax and unwind. Tracery II is an elegant alternative to a neutral that will elevate your scheme with a touch of soothing, nurturing colour.

Windmill Lane is an inviting shade of green with character and depth. An authentic National Trust colour, it has a timeless quality and looks sophisticated all-over, or when combined with a complementary neutral on the surrounding walls. Muted greens like these work wonderfully as a backdrop to artwork and accessories, as well as gold detailing. @new_build_forever_home used Windmill Lane to create a beautiful focal point amongst a neutral colour palette.

4. Use textural wallpaper to create a restful sanctuary

There are many ways you can use wallpaper, from inspiring mural designs that transform a space, to bright and energising combinations of colour and pattern. But if you’re seeking a tranquil and unwinding mood, consider introducing wallpaper to bring a soft, textural element to your scheme.

Opt for neutral or two-tone designs that feel more understated, allowing you to maintain a restful, pared-back finish. Leafy botanical prints like Fern or Carlton House Terrace have an almost tactile quality, combining beautifully with complementary soft furnishings to create a haven of calm. @hava.castro paired Fern – Sage Blue with Livid in this elegant, contemporary scheme.

Many of our wallpapers are offered in subtle neutral variations that complement schemes with a gentle, calming ambience. @mrsjessdaines selected the Portland Stone colourway of our floral print, Spring Flowers, to create this timeless hallway scheme. It beautifully accompanies panelling in the coordinating green-hued neutral, Baluster, pairing natural prints with soft earthy hues in harmonious combination.
