This paper would originally have consisted of a handpainted vine-leafed border running round the sides of each wall, which would have been applied directly onto a pre-hung green wallpaper. It was removed from the ground floor front room, most likely the dining room, of a terrace house in Chesterfield St. in Mayfair, built around 1755.
